Antwerp : a seminar "Raising Effectiveness of Privately Financed Education Projects in Africa"

The seminar will focus on three
questions:
– Prof. Nadia Molenaers (University of Antwerp/IOB) and Stéphane
Stassen (Transparency International) will critically evaluate the effectiveness
of foreign aid to Africa. Under what conditions could foreign aid be more
effective?
– Elise Legault (Global Campaign for Education) and Wamu Oyatambwe
(Acodev) will examine how to integrate empowerment, advocacy and ownership into
privately financed education projects
– Papa Sene (CGMD) and Huib Huyse
(HIVA/K.U.Leuven) will consider models and pathways of involving African
diaspora in education projects with special attention to the "Tres por Uno"
model.
The program provides ample space for questions and debate with the
public. Prof. dr. Renard (Chairman of IOB/UA) will draw some conclusions.
The
seminar is of special interest to smaller scale NGO's with experience in
privately financed educational projects in Africa, although all issues raised
also concern established NGO's and networks for advocacy, government agencies
and academic experts.
Since there is no subscription fee, we kindly invite
participants to register before 15th November which will enable us to provide
for documentation maps and catering.
Faithfully yours,
Prof. dr. Walter
