Pax Christi: Red Hand Campaign on Child Soldiers

The

Red Hand symbol has been used all over the world by the Coalition to
Stop

the Use of Child Soldiers, of which Pax Christi International is a
member.

It is also used by many civil society organisations to say 'No' to
the

recruitment and use of child soldiers. Pax Christi International
encourages

all Member Organisations to set up activities involving the Red Hand
to

attract media attention, as well as the attention of decision makers
and

opinion leaders. The 12th of February 2009 will be observed as Red Hand
Day

and 1 million red hands will be delivered at the UN in New York. For
any

other questions or information on issues related to child soldiers,

Flanders is coordinator of the

Belgian Coalition against the use of child soldiers, and as such

coordinating the collection of Red Hands in Belgium. So far, on 2
December

2008, they have collected close to 40.000 red hands and they are
confident

that we will have about 50.000 of them. The tri-lingual website (in
English,

Dutch and French) on this campaign is (www.child-soldiers.be ;

www.kindsoldaat.be ; www.enfant-soldat.be ), and includes a
short movie clip

and a module through which red hands can be collected in a virtual
manner.
