War Child programme in D.R. Congo

War Child Holland started to work in D.R. Congo (DRC) in 2003. The programme aims at improving the psychosocial wellbeing of children and youth who have been affected by the conflict in the DRC. War Child works in Bukavu, Walungu, Mwenga and Goma. The country office is based in Bukavu. The programme focuses on protection and promotion of the rights of children (e.g. birth registration, improving living conditions in prison) and to ensure healthy psychosocial development of children and youth. WCH makes use of creative, sports, drama and dance activities and uses a community based approach.

War Child Programme Area (WPA) DRC supports options for collaboration and exchange with War Child offices in Uganda and Burundi. War Child is committed to add value to the development of a sustainable programme which suits the local needs and works closely with Congolese local organizations and relevant government institutions.

The challenge

Ensures that the Operation is set up and running effectively and efficiently to enable programme staff and other stakeholders to carry out the War Child Programme. The Manager Operations (MO) sees to transparent and reliable processes and generates management information for the stakeholders. The MO directly manages 3 staff members: the Logistic Coordinator, the Finance Officer and the Administrator. The MO reports to the Country Director (CD).

Profile

– Knowledge of financial administration (minimum BSc level), logistic management and procedures (including maintenance), IT (computer, network, communication means) and HR-administration;

– A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a management position within an international (NGO) environment, preferably within the field in a developing country and/or (post) conflict area;

– Experience in HR administration and the development of HR policies;

– Experience of working with automated accounting systems, SAGE experience is an added value;

– Experience living and working in complex security contexts;

– Proactive search for and utilize organizational resources;

– Planning and organizational capabilities;

– Capability to decide in tactical and operational issues;

– Team player and hands-on mentality;

– Result focused and cost-conscious;

– Required: fluency in French and English (verbal and written).
