26 11 11 – The European Network for Central Africa EurAc sends 90 international election observers to the Democratic Republic of Congo
These are the second
democratic elections that should help the Congolese people to
definitively turn the page on the
conflict and consolidate the democratization process begun with the elections in
2006.
The EurAc mission
consists of 90 international observers from 10 European and three African
countries. The observers will be deployed and work alongside AETA
partners in several locations across
the Congo's eleven
provinces.
EurAcs 90 international
observers will work to support AETAs 3000 national observers.
EurAc's
objective is to contribute to the credibility of the electoral process by
supporting Congolese civil society's observation effort. EurAc's concern is to
work alongside its Congolese partners
to ensure peaceful and transparent process which respects Congolese electoral
law and human rights.
EurAc's observers arrived in Kinshasa from November 21, and have now all been deployed
to the areas they will be observing in Kinshasa and other
provinces
