25 04 14 AllAfrica – Angola, DRC and South Africa Delegations Meet in Benguela

by the Angloan Foreign Ministry, the three-day meeting will also
analyse and discuss various projects under the operation of the said
mechanism recommended at the tripartite ministerial meeting held in
October 2013 in Kinshasa, DRC.

Addressing
the opening ceremony, the director for Africa and Middle East of the
Angolan Foreign Ministry, Joaquim do Espirito Santo , said the event is
taking place within a regional and international context.

The
official underlined that the meeting is discussing the intervention of
the international community towards a sustainable resolution of
conflicts that pose serious threats to peace and security, particularly
in the Central African Republic (CAR), South Sudan and Ukraine.

According
to him, issues like conflicts and their impact on people, such as
terrorism, organised crime, drugs trafficking, maritime piracy,
environmental crime , looting of resources and extreme poverty, misery
and hunger are among the priorities of the three countries.

Joaquim do Espírito Santo also spoke of the active commitment of Angola to peacekeeping.

He
said that the country assumes responsibilities at international level,
in particular with regard to Africa within the regional framework and in
the economic and political grouping in which the country is integrated –
Southern Africa Development Community (SADC), Economic Community of
Central Africa States (ECCAS) and Portuguese Speaking Countries
Community (CPLP).

Angola is also a member of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region and Gulf of Guinea.

The
opening ceremony was attended by municipal administrator of Benguela,
Leopoldo Muhongo, Government and National Police representatives.
