Martin Fayulu entered politics in 2006, when he was elected as Member of Parliament in DRC. He was re-elected in 2011. In 2018 he was one of the two main opposition candidates in the DRC presidential election, the outcome of which he contests.

Filip Reyntjens is professor emeritus at the Institute of Development Policy at the University of Antwerp and member of its Great Lakes of Africa Centre.
