DanChurchAid is looking for a Project Coordinator for South Kivu
DCA has offices in 12 countries, projects worldwide and about 150 staff in HQ in Copenhagen. DCA is expanding its work in DRC and has recently established a Regional Office in Kalemie, Katanga province, with 5 expat staff and 8 local staff. Furthermore, DCA has a separate office in Kalemie dealing with Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) activities as well as various field offices.
The Project Coordinator will refer to the DCA Regional Representative (RR) in DR Congo.
Background information on the project
The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the reduction of Gender Based Violence in South Kivu. The immediate objectives are to 1) reduce the occurrence of sexual violence performed by the military and police through the promotion of human rights, capacity building and awareness raising, 2) to strengthen institutional and technical capacities of networks and community-based organizations to combat sexual and gender-based violence and 3) to improve access to care and support for survivors of gender-based violence and women at risk.
The project will be implemented jointly between DCA's partners in South Kivu, ECC-MERU, Héritiers de la Justice and CEPAC/Panzi hospital. Each agency is responsible for implementing its own activities and has a project team leader and a project team. The project team leaders are under the Project Coordinator's management. The project will be managed by a Management Committee composed of representatives of the three implementing organisations and DCA with an observatory and advisory role. The Project Coordinator will answer to the Management Committee, with the possibility to access DCA directly in case of need.
Main tasks and responsibilities of the Project Coordinator
· Overall management of the project implementation to achieve the project objectives
· Ensure the quality of the work and that all guidelines and requirements set by DCA and back donors are followed
· Lead the teams of each implementing partner, supervise and follow up on partner activities
· Coordinate and hold monthly meetings with the Project Management Committee
· Compile and quality assure narrative and financial reports, based on inputs from each team
· Coordinate research and compile lessons learned
· Coordination with other stakeholders working with gender based violence in the region
· Facilitate capacity building of partners
Your qualifications are:
· Fluency in French
· Excellent English writing skills and good level of spoken English
· Experience as project coordinator and team leader: Ability to lead a team, identify priorities, delegate, and monitor the work of others
· Experience in rights based approaches to development and project implementation.
· Experience in organisational development and capacity building
· Experience in Gender Based Violence and HIV/AIDS
· Experience in logistics and procurement is preferable
· Experience in working with local partner organisations
· Good capacity to write narrative and financial reports
· Ability to work independently and with a good sense of responsibility
· Experience in working in conflict environments, managing teams under stress, and having completed some basic training in security management
· Knowledge of and experience with local context, cultures and traditions of DRC
· Knowledge of international human rights instruments, in particular women's and children's rights. Knowledge of the African Human Rights instruments ís an added advantage.
Your conditions of employment are:
· Salary, pension and terms according to relevant DCA agreement
· Period of employment: Start date 1 July 2009 for a period of 2.5 years
