10.07.11 Bill Clinton Foundation For Peace protests against police brutality in Kinshasa

During the manifestation the police who was supposed to protected and directed them opened fire on them with a real bullot and shot  one militant called Serge Lukusa and he died in the hospital. A member of our NGO who was at present during the manifestation said that he saw a policeman shot on one militant of the UDPS who was died at a spot. And his dead body was taken immediately to unknown place.

Many militants of the UDPS were arrested and many were badly injured. And up to now some are stll admitted at hospitals in Kinshasa.

The militants of the UDPS said, they will not give up the fight. Another sit -in infront of the National Independent Electorial Commission Headquarters is projected on 11th July 2011.The aim is, they want free and fair election. They are camplaining about the registration of children under 18 years, policemen and soliders who are not allowed through the Congolese Consititution to  register and have electoral cards to vote.

The Article 256 of the Congolese Consititution allows pacific manifestation. Our preoccupation is, when the militants of the leading power and others parties loyal to the Presidential party organized a manifestation, the police didn't use force. But if it comes to the opposition leaders they often intervene by force. And it is regretable for the Congolese young democracy.

The BCFP thinks that, if the police continues to intervene with force whenever there is a manifestation of the opposition political parties, the amicable peace already fragile will be threatened.

The BCFP asks the Congolese Government to instruct the police to protect and to organize the militants of the opposition political parties's members whenever there is a manifestation

Allows the opposition leaders and their members equal access to the National Medias consificated

Leaves private Televisions and Radio Stations to do their work without any hindrance

Protects journalists and human rights defenders to do their work without any embrassement . Protects and direct the opposition leaders during their campain in the other provinces in DRC

Asks the International Community to work more on preventive action.
