18 09 13 UNHCR Nansen award given to Sister Angelique Namaika from DRC

Attached
and below is some information on Sister Angelique, who after the award ceremony
in Geneva will be visiting Rome, Paris, and on 7-8 October, Brussels. UNHCR are
asking partners to spread the word about the Nansen award, which is also an
opportunity to highlight the continuing conflict in DRC. They have suggested the
following tweet: This year's #Nansen Award laureate is Sister Angélique Namaika,
a hero and supporter of survivors of brutal violence in #DRC. bit.ly/TnG31W

Sister Angélique
has changed the lives of thousands of displaced women by providing them with a
basic education, vocational based training and psycho-social counseling.  Many
of the women and girls she helps are survivors of the cruelest forms of physical
abuse and sexual violence. It is with the help the comprehensive support network
provided by Sister Angélique’s Centre for Reintegration and Development (CRAD)
that these women are able to cope with the trauma of their experiences. It is
for her exceptional courage and determination to help these women that Sister
Angélique has been given this award. Her work shows that just one person can
change the lives of many. (see more information attached).

Following the
Nansen Refugee Award ceremony Sister Angelique will be received at the Vatican
by Pope Francis at a private audience on October 2nd and afterwards
she will proceed to Paris and Brussels, before visiting Oslo October
10th.
