Introduction

Nine years ago, the nations of the entire world fixed 8 ambitious objectives for 2015: the Millennium Objectives. Today, we are quite simply back at square one. In a context where the world financial crisis, food shortages, emigration, climate change, questions about to sources of energy and the consequences of globalization dominate the news, the absence of positive results in these areas fuels debate.

The Centre for European Research in Microfinance (CERMi) is a research centre founded by the Solvay
Brussels School of Economics and management of the Université Libre de Bruxelles and the Faculté Warocqué
of the Université Mons. It aims, among others, to develop suitable frameworks to critically examine existing
microfinance practices and to promote academic research through the support of doctoral research programmes,
international publications and the organisation of workshops, seminars and conferences.
