26.09.11 Mouvement Bleu: Prevent an Ivory Coast ‘bis in DR Congo
With the objective of supporting a democratic, transparent and just electoral process in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and therefore avoid a more than probable Ivory Coast (bis) scenario in Kinshasa and DR Congo in general, the Blue Movement presided by the Rev. Jean-Paul Moka is calling on the United Nations, United States of America, China, The European Union (Belgium, UK, Germany, France, Russia and Portugal in particular ) and the G8 countries to demand on the Congolese Supreme court and the National Electoral Commission to address the specific issued raised in this communiqué:

Kinshasa, 16 September 2011 – Three cargo planes transporting three hundred tons of electoral material landed at NDjili International Airport, in the Congolese capital, on 14 and 15 September. This first batch of electoral material from China comprised electoral kits intended for elections that are expected to start later this year.

The network of European NGOs for advocacy on Central Africa (EurAc) and its member NGOs are greatly concerned by recent reports that publicly-owned mining resources in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have seemingly being sold off to private interests in secret, without a competitive tendering process and at prices far lower than their market value. We call on European donors and the World Bank to take a far more active role in monitoring these activities, and to push for the full implementation of the Economic Governance Matrix that the DRC government agreed with the World Bank in March 2011.
