Angola has called for dialogue between fighting factions in eastern DR Congo, as a possible solution for peace and security.
The Angolan Ambassador to Uganda, Prof Ambrosro Lukoki, said fighting back had proved a futile solution to conflict globally. Recently, a combined force of the DR Congo army, African Union and UN troops, defeated the M23 rebels in eastern Congo, forcing the rebels to flee to Uganda.

Kenya and Tanzania are among several countries in the region who are introducing laws to curb press freedom. In Kenya, one of Africa's bastions of democracy, a new bill threatens to impose stiff penalties on journalists for articles deemed harmful by the government. In neighbouring Tanzania, which Barack Obama visited this summer, the government has shut down independent newspapers. And in Burundi, a new law forces journalists to reveal sources or face heavy fines.

Congolese militia leader Bosco Ntaganda’s application for interim release from the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has been turned down by the single judge handling his case. Judge Ekaterina Trendafilova ruled that Mr. Ntaganda should stay in court custody as he was a flight risk and had the potential to threaten or influence witnesses.
